Fishing the Coquille River

Spawning Gravel South Fork CoquilleA detailed fishing Atlas of the Coquille River Watershed.

Fishing Opportunities

There are many different Sport Fishing opportunities throughout the system from offshore in the Pacific Ocean to the upper headwaters during trout season.  Chinook Salmon and Winter Steelhead are two main Sport Fisheries that draw large numbers of people as well as fish to the Coquille River Drainage.

Recently the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) has allowed a small wild Coho Salmon fishery in the estuary, which can be fast action fishing.

Family Fun

A combo trip in the late fall can be an exciting day of family fun.  Drop the traps at the mouth for Dungeness Crab and then troll upriver for Chinook and Coho Salmon.  Dungeness Crabbing is good in the Spring, Summer, and Fall once the Winter's high flows recede.  If you are interested in other Shellfish then check out Whiskey Run Beach for Razor Clams, when allowed.  Make sure to check for Harmful Algal Bloom closures.  A relatively undeveloped fishery is the Sturgeon fishery in the lower river during the Winter time.
